We can add more locations to get gluten free foods to our Bozeman area list and I can't wait to give them a try.
Cupcake Mountain Cupcakery is Bozeman's first Cupcakery. They offer gluten free cupcakes and have delicious looking cupcakes on their web page. I don't know if they always have GF options on hand or not so you may want to call before stopping in. You can find them at 218 Nth 7th Ave or call at 406-577-2787.
Smiling Moose Deli offers gluten free sandwiches served on a 7" Sweet Escape's GF hoagie roll. It does cost an additional $1.50 for the GF option but we're used to that by now. They have breakfast and lunch sandwiches plus the tomato basil and vegetable soups are GF along with the SMD Meat Chili. If you want something lighter they have a create your own salad with chicken salad or tuna salad or the Ty Cobb and Italiano are also GF options. The GF dressings are ranch, blue cheese, balsamic vinaigrette, and low-fat orange rosemary. Ask for their GF menu and you'll see at the bottom they state they practice extreme caution when preparing GF foods and to allow a few extra minutes. They are located at 2631 West Main.
MSU also has some GF treats that are popping up. The Sweet Shop has GF cookies that are prepackaged and not from the Fat Cat Bakery on campus. Avogadro's has GF cookies and brownies for sale and the Union Market has a shelf near the cashiers that has prepackaged GF options like Veggie Bootie, Glutino pretzels, soups, and kind bars. It's slowly getting better on campus.
And last I need to share some sad news to those who don't already know, Neptune's Brewery is no longer offering their GF beer at The Dock because well The Dock is no longer there. It's now a gaming parlor. Last time I tried you can still get their GF beer on tap at Neptune's Brewery in Livingston, call ahead to make sure they have it on hand.

Gluten Free Microbrew at Neptune's Brewery
Neptune's Brewery has a gluten free beer called Liberty Call available on tap. We picked up a growler and were really impressed with it. It has a sweet smooth start with a hit of hops at the end. I'm not a big fan of hoppy beers but it's a nice touch in this beer. It is a different taste than most GF beers and we welcomed the change. Keep up the great work Neptunes!
You can get growlers at the Brewery in Livingston or at the Dock located at 806 Nth 7th Ave in Bozeman. Bottoms up!

New Grist Gluten Free Beer - Found it!
New Grist Beer in Bozeman
My sister in law said she had found New Grist gluten free beer at the Bozeman Co-op so I had to swing by yesterday. I found where it belonged on the shelf but they were out of stock, bummer! If you haven't tried this beer give it a go. It's a bit more hoppy than the other GF beers available and nice to have more selection! I did walk of there with some Ian's products I've been looking for for months so there will be a review soon.
If you want to get some of the Betty Crocker GF mixes with a discount here are two coupon links.
The first is through General Mills directly.
The second coupon is through coupons dot com and on the 8th page.

Kettlehouse Brewery, Gluten Free Beer
I spotted this fantastic article online about the Kettlehouse Brewery in Missoula working on a gluten free beer. Yes! They have made a Seeley Axe White (ha!) beer brewed with Sorghum but until they can do testing for gluten proteins in the beer they are stating it's "gluten reduced". I understand them wanting to cover their butts.
I think this is great news and deserves a lot of support from the beer drinking GF community. If you happen to try a glass of it please let me know what you think of the beer and if you have any reactions.
The Kettlehouse Brewery is located at 602 Myrtle Street in Missoula.

Deschutes Brewery Portland, OR
Knowing that the Deschutes Brewery in Portland has a GF beer on tap AND has a GF menu to eat from we just had to do lunch there, how could we resist? I was initially excited about the sweet potato fries they had on the menu, we so rarely get to enjoy fries outside of the house, until I read the note applying to the *. It states the fries (and wings) are prepared in oil which is also used to cook products containing gluten. So they really aren't GF due to cross contamination and I personally don't think they should be on their GF menu but at least they say something.

We all (well the adults anyways) started off with a beer and Hubby and I got their GF option which was a blonde. The GF beers have bands put around them so everyone knows it's GF and that was nice to see. It was too light for Hubby's and my tastes so we didn't get a growler but we did at least enjoy having a beer on tap. What I'd give for a dark GF beer.

For our meals we planned to try out their GF buns and I had promised my boy that he would get a burger with a bun. He just wanted the bun of course. My waitress informed me they didn't get their GF bun shipment on time and only had a limited number (for awhile I thought this number was 0), turned out to be only two left. We wound up ordering 2 burgers with GF buns and 2 burgers with no buns. I did cut mine in half so Hubby and I could do half a burger with a bun each. The buns were really good, not too dense or thick so we enjoyed what we had.

I ordered the roasted garlic burger and it was yummy, too much for me to eat at lunch but that's another story. We did enjoy ourselves and will probably go back the next time we're in Portland. Deschutes Brewery is located at 210 NW 11th Ave in Portland, OR.

Gluten Free Cheesy Beer Bread
I saw this cheesy beer bread recipe at Tasty Kitchen and I had to try it, it looked too good to pass up plus there wasn’t much time needed to whip it together. This accompanied our roast this last weekend and it was delicious. It’s a quick bread so no time wasted for it to rise, just mix and bake resulting in a dense but tasty loaf. Delicious? Yes! Healthy? No! The whole family liked it and it’ll be my new recipe for when I need some bread and I need it fast.
Gluten Free Cheesy Beer Bread
Adapted from Tasty Kitchen
3 C gluten free flour (I used Mama’s Almond Blend)
2 t xanthan gum
3 t baking powder
1 t salt
¼ C granulated sugar
1 C cheddar cheese, shredded (For DF Daiya works perfectly)
12 oz gluten free beer, I used Redbridge
¼ C melted butter
Garlic & onion powder to taste
Parsley flakes
Preheat oven to 375 F. Sift together the flour, xanthan gum, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Stir in the cheese and mix well. Mix in the beer, it will be a bit hard toward the end but I was able to get it all mixed together by hand. Put in a loaf pan or separate into muffin tins. Pour melted butter on top of the dough, sprinkle with garlic and onion powders to taste, then sprinkle with parsley flakes to make it pretty. Bake for 1 hour with a loaf, I would try for 40-45 minutes with the muffin tins.

Gluten Free Beer in Helena & Bake Sale Review
Hubby’s GF Aunt lives in Helena and has shared some gluten free beer information with me. Van’s Thriftway (306 Euclid Ave. 406-442-8645) carries Redbridge and Topper’s Cellar (1221 Helena Ave. 406-442-9357) carries Bards and Redbridge. Sounds like a great excuse to make some beer bread to me.
We made it to the GF Bake Sale on Saturday and it wasn’t what I expected. Maybe my expectations were too high but I was really disappointed and not just by the selection. There were 3 types of cookies and some bread crumbs so the selection wasn’t fantastic but that’s not what put me off. I walked in with my kids and had promised my boy that he could get a treat. We’d just left the doctor’s office with a diagnosis of an ear infection so he wasn’t feeling too good. We went over to the bake sale area and no one there really seemed interested in paying us any attention. I did get two cookies for my boy and one cookie for my girl but after I paid that was all the attention we got. No mention about the drawing nor the Montana Celiac Society. I guess I expected them to be more open and offering of information rather than leave it all to me to open up the communication. I didn’t open up the communication at all and I also didn’t give them the cookies I had made and packaged for them to sell. It was a big disappointment. Did anyone else make it to the bake sale and if so what did you think?

Bard's Beer in Belgrade
I had to do my weekly grocery shopping last night and we were out of Redbridge gluten free beer. We don’t really care for the taste of Redbridge but it’s the cheapest GF beer out there so we use it for marinating steak and making beer bread. If you’re someone that likes Budweiser type beers then you’ll probably be very happy with Redbridge, we are more of dark beer people so it’s a bit bland for us. I went to Lee & Dad’s IGA and I happily saw sitting next to the Redbridge our most favorite GF beer that so far we have only been able to get in Missoula at The Good Food Store. Yes I’m talking about Bard’s Beer. I was so happy and surprised, I haven’t seen this anywhere else in Bozeman. Bard’s isn’t dark but it has a good flavor even though it’s a tad bit on the hoppy side, not a strong hoppy taste but it’s there. I commented to my checker that I was really happy to see them carrying this beer along with all of the other great GF products they have and she informed me that the woman that orders their beer and organic items is Celiac. I knew there had to be someone with Celiac tied to that store, why else would they have so many great options? To add to it the woman behind me asked me about the beer because she is also on a gluten free diet, it just goes to show there are more of us than we realize. I did also find the Betty Crocker GF mixes, they were about 20 cents more than at Albertsons.

L&D’s also carries two of the Green’s GF beers, I believe it’s Discovery and Quest but I’m not positive. I like the Green’s beers, they have a little bit of a fruity undertone to them. If you look for them at L&D’s you’ll find them next to the deli, they are not in the beer aisle. The Co-op carries all three of the Green’s beers that are available in North America and they also carry Toleration which is another one of our favorites but since it’s imported it’s also the most expensive.

Of course everyone’s taste in beer is different so if you like beer give them a try and see which one suits you the best. If you find one you don’t really care for that’s always a good excuse to make beer bread, marinate a steak, or kill slugs in your garden.

Sorry the picture is cut off, it's the best I could find.
